New Product Alert – Benefit Sun Beam

Sun Beam Golden Bronze Complexion Highlighter  hits the shelves on 14th January in Australialand and sells for $45.

This liquid bronzer is an easy way to maintain a safe sun-kissed look all year around. It has been designed to be blended with most foundations making this a really flexible addition to any make-up bag.  Benefit is such a funky retain space and well worth a visit so next time you call in why not pop a little sun beam into your basket.
The Science Bit
This would have been quite a tricky formula to put together. The Caprylic blah, blah, blah ingredient is actually a really interesting naturally-derived oily component that can be used to cut down on the silicone in a formula while still giving that light, easy-glide feel. Then there are some other solvents, silicones and polymers which all make this a fast spreading, light weight product with good pigment dispersing ability – you won’t end up with blobby colour.  Otherwise it contains a newer generation preservative blend (Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol) and gets its colour from Iron Oxide.  All in all a pretty fab product from a nerds perspective.
Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric/Succinic Triglyceride, Pentylene Glycol, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Dimethicone, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Dimethicone Peg-7 Phosphate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Steareth-21, Squalane, CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), Butylene Glycol, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Steareth-2, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 60, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sodium Hydroxide. Pore Perfection from Benefit

I was lucky enough to receive a pack of this new product the other week and thought that it was about time I gave you the low-down on it.  Benefit, the brand that  is world-famous for its cheeky and fun attitude to beauty have gone all grown-up with this highly sophisticated and luxurious formulation.  This is definitely something for the top shelf!

Large, open pores are the bane of many of our beauty lives and they are difficult to hide.  They are actually hair follicles although the hair may be very fine to non-existent and their job is to deliver oil and sweat to the surface of the skin. Oil is produced and released to keep the skin moist and sweating helps to keep us cool so these little eye-sores (if you see them as such) are actually pretty important.

Problems can start to arise with pores when you reach puberty and hormonal disruptions start to wreak their havoc.  Pores that have become blocked due to too much oil or dirt can become infected and enlarged leaving behind an uneven surface which is hard to cover-up.  However, pore size is not all due to acne and hormones some of it is genetic – if you parents have enlarged pores you will probably follow suit (and yes, acne is also genetic in part but you don’t have to have acne to get enlarged pores and some people with acne don’t end up with enlarged pores, weird).

So, is there anything that you can do to minimise your chance of developing enlarged pores?

As the skin is the first line of defence, the environment always plays some part in how you end up looking. Too much sun, bad habits such as smoking and eating […]

Beauty Blogging Event, Sydney 2010

What a day, champagne for breakfast, eyebrow rehab @ Benefit Cosmetics,  secret training on new Nivea launch, Orly manicure,  Trilogy goody bag, Jane Iredale Mineral make-up ,  Elastoplasts for those little mishaps and BRAD NGATA to do our hair!!!!!! It could only be Maxted Thomas and their blogger event.

Maxted Thomas, (PR agency to the stars) knows a thing or two about the power of the blogger and today they celebrated the contribution that us little people make in the rather itchy sounding world of viral marketing. Bloggers do what they do because they love it, say what they say because they believe it and mostly  just sit at home day after day, night after night testing, writing and putting themselves through pain (OK, you couldn’t call it pain) so that you don’t have to.   Like them, I am also driven by some insane inner daemon that demands that I tell you all about my latest beauty discovery and scienteriffic wonder cream. I couldn’t stop even if you tried to pay me………. Well,  I guess I could be open to negotiation on that one!  BUT as altruistic as the blogging world is, it does feel good to get a pat on the back occasionally so thank you Maxted Thomas team.

And so to the pictures….

As you see above  I was  joined by around 40 bloggers at the Benefit beauty store in Paddington for some much-needed brow shaping and tinting. Apparently mine need to go into rehab as I have over plucked and under-nourished my poor little hairy friends – I did have to laugh when the lovely assistant working on me asked me to tell her about my brows.  The only time I really gave them much thought was when I nearly burned them off with my bunsen burner in […]
